Merchant Terraria
The Skeleton Merchant is an prehardmode NPC that will not move into one of your available houses. Instead, he spawns randomly in the underground, in the Cavern layer. He is one of the two NPCs without a map icon (second being the Old Man guarding the Dungeon), so constant map checking to find him is not an option. If you are really desperate (and I can understand that - RNG can be a pain in the arse sometimes) then you can either download tEdit and force-spawn the Travelling Merchant or download the Builder's Workshop from Curseforge and look for whatever you want to buy from the Travelling Merchant NPC there. Anyway, to increase your chances of the Traveling Merchant spawning, consider increasing your luck and enemy spawn rates, i.e. place a Water Candle, consume a Battle Potion, place a Garden Gnome, place a biome specific torch and ensure there are no other types of torches nearby, and consume a Luck Potion.
